Health benefits of matcha

Updated: May 8, 2022

Hi everyone ♡

Today I wanted to talk to you about matcha and its health benefits. Matcha has become very trendy these days and personally, I'm a big fan. I love a matcha latte with oat milk, matcha bliss balls or a matcha flavoured chia pudding. Not only is matcha delicious, but it also has some great benefits for your health.

First, let me explain what matcha actually is. Matcha comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, just like green tea does. However, matcha contains the nutrients of the entire leaf, which means that matcha contains a higher number of antioxidants and caffeine compared to regular green tea. Here are five health benefits of matcha:

1. Matcha is high in antioxidants

Like I've mentioned before, matcha contains a high amount of antioxidants. One of those antioxidants is catechin. This is a type of disease-fighting flavonoid and antioxidant. Antioxidants can help prevent cell damage and potentially lower your risk of several chronic diseases.

2. Matcha can help prevent cancer

Matcha is filled with a lot of beneficial nutrients; some of those are even linked to cancer prevention in animal studies. However, further research is needed to determine the effects on humans.

3. Matcha can help improve brain function

Matcha has been shown to improve attention, memory and reaction time. However, unlike coffee, matcha also contains L-theanine, which can help reduce stress levels and increase relaxation. This makes it a great alternative for people who don’t like the negative side effects of coffee but are still looking for that energy boost.

4. Matcha can help protect your heart

It has been proven that green tea reduces the level of total and LDL cholesterol. Besides that, matcha can also help lower your blood pressure. In combination with a healthy diet, it could help to keep your heart healthy and protect it from diseases.

5. Matcha can help you lose weight

Green tea has also been proven to increase weight loss. It can help speed up your metabolism and boost fat burning. It not only can help you lose weight, but it could also help you maintain weight loss.

Have you ever tried matcha? If so, do you like it?

With love,

Lysanne
